Massif et Pointe Marguareïs

The incredible natural site of Cretaceous-Jurassic age, with its Pointe Marguareis and its foothills, locks the upstream part of the Réfrei valley, in the commune of Tende and the enclave of the commune of La Brigue. An area classified Natura 2000, protected by the "Parco Marguareis", an Italian natural park, its highest point, Punta Marguareis, at 2651 m, takes you to the roof of the Ligurian Alps and its sea view. With a massive presence of limestone rocks, giving the mountain its special appearance, characterised by long stripes, long more or less deep faults and famous caves... the whole area has many cavities and famous chasms, which have notably hosted the experiments of the famous speleologist Michel Siffre in the Scarassoun chasm and its fossil glacier, for experienced speleologists only !
